Jivko Jelev was born on July 23, 1979 in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, and started playing professional football at the age of 11 within the Beroe Stara Zagora club. At the start of the 2007-2008 season he signed for Otelul Galati, rapidly becoming one of the team’s main players. He played 73 games for Otelul and scored 7 goals. At international level he has 24 caps and 2 goals for Bulgaria’s U-21 football team, as well as 6 caps for Bulgaria’s national football team. After obtaining Razvan Ochirosii in return for Bulgarian fullback Jivko Jelev, Otelul announced on Wednesday that it has bought Serbian goalkeeper Branko Grahovac and Romanian striker Alin Cotan. Cotan, born on October 30, 1982, has signed an 18-month contract with the option to extend it for three more seasons. Cotan came to Galati as a player free of contract after he previously played for FC Bihor Oradea, Liberty Salonta, UTA Arad, Petrolul Ploiesti, Chimia Brazi and Hungary’s FC Sopron."

I will eventually post some sketches of that region, as it's a very old and beautiful area. As it's New Year's Eve, we will be greeting neighbors today with the traditional 'Einen guten Rutsch!' I don't know the history of the term, but it brings back memories of one year ago today when the streets were all covered with a layer a black ice and you could see cars and people literally sliding into the new year, especially if they had had one too many."

On Good Friday (10 April 2009) St. Georgenkirche is the venue of a performance of Haydn’s wonderful The Seven Last Words of our Savior on the Cross.

Haydn’s oratorio The Creation is performed on 31 May 2009 at St. Michaeliskirche. The gothic church, which has fantastic acoustic properties, already played host to a Creation performance in 1932 on the occasion of the 1st Sopron Festival Weeks. During the Liszt Festival in summer, the church will be the venue of concerts featuring works by Haydn and Liszt, with Tamás Szekendy on the organ and Renáta Darázs as soprano (26 July 2009)."
