Rebranding Hungary: Cool Budapest | The Economist: "For those uninterested in the minutiae of political debate, culture and music can be a far more powerful means of getting a message across. Volt, a rock music festival in the western city of Sopron, will mark the closing of Hungary's EU presidency this month. The location is fitting: it was near here, in August 1989, that Hungarian border guards allowed fleeing East Germans to break through the border into Austria, thus setting in motion a chain of events that rapidly brought down communism across eastern Europe and the Soviet Union.
